Sarah Hughson Bio
- High School: The Gunnery - Ice Hockey, Soccer, Lacrosse
- College: Elmira College - Ice Hockey, Lacrosse
- Professional: NWHL Connecticut Whale (2 Seasons)
- National: Team USA National Ball Hockey
Playing Background: I grew up in Connecticut, where I played boys hockey up until high school. I attended The Gunnery School in Washington, CT for all 4 years of high school. I played soccer, ice hockey, and lacrosse there. In addition to Gunnery, I played for the CT Polar Bears from u14-u19. After Gunnery, I went on to play at Elmira College where I played on the division three nationally ranked ice hockey team, and the lacrosse team. We competed in the NCAA Division III National Tournament all four years I was there, placing second twice, third once, and were quarterfinalists once. My senior year I led the program in points, game winning goals, and power play goals. This led to being a CCM/ACHA First Team All-American, UCHC Player of the Year, Elmira College Athlete of the Year, and UCHC Tournament MVP.
After graduating Elmira I went on to play for the Connecticut Whale in the NWHL for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season. In addition, I earned a spot on the National Ball hockey team for team USA to compete in the World Championships in Slovakia in 2019, where we were silver medalist.
Coaching Background: I have been coaching camps, clinics, and skills sessions since my freshman year of college. After graduating in 2018, I became the assistant coach for girls varsity ice hockey at Choate Rosemary Hall for two seasons. Currently, I am the new assistant coach for the varsity girls ice hockey team at Greenwich Country Day School, the head coach for a u10 team at Greenwich Skating Club, and run private lessons throughout the summer and winter seasons. I have worked with video breakdown and analysis since my junior year of high school. It is a huge advantage at a young age to be introduced to film breakdowns. I believe watching yourself play, as well as higher level players, through video analysis is a skill that most people overlook. Watching the game has greatly improved my own level of play and was a big factor in my success as a hockey player, athlete, and coach. I am beyond excited to show my passion for this skillset with young athletes!

Head Coach of The CT Whale
Sarah is one of the best people I’ve come across while coaching or playing the game of hockey. It’s evident right away that she is someone who loves hockey and she was an integral part of our program here for the four years. The growth she demonstrated from her freshman year to her senior year where she was named first team All-American shows her passion for the game. She’s a student of the game and was constantly working on it whether it was skill development or video of her shifts. Her knowledge and skillset will be an advantage for any young aspiring player.
